FLEETING COLOURS

Deep Dive:

We mix elements of grunge, shoegaze, punk, emo and alternative to create a sound that is heavy and gritty but also dreamy and atmospheric at the same time. There is a great deal of raw emotion to our songs as the majority of our song lyrics center on some pretty heavy and politically charged topics. We are heavily influenced by nostalgic bands like Deftones, Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Cranberries, as well as modern bands like Superheaven, Balance & Composure, Basement, Teenage Wrist, Glare, Oversize, Nothing, Scowl and many more. Our songwriting process typically begins with Jay, who starts by programming the drum patterns on his laptop, establishing the foundational feel and rhythm of the track. He then builds on that energy with rhythm guitar chord progressions. From there, Lauren adds her bass lines and crafts a vocal melody. Once the melody is finalized, she and Jay collaborate on the lyrics, sharing the responsibility equally. With the core structure in place, Eric learns the drum parts and brings his own creative flair, while Cody adds lead guitar layers that bring texture and sparkle to the song.
